I really love the concept behind this game, and the minimalist graphics work well to show how the gravity works. I would have to agree with @FuturecopLGF that Level 6 is a bit of a difficulty spike for how early on it is in the game. I'd love to keep playing, though, once I get past that level :)

Also, the medals don't seem to be working for me? I don't know if this is a problem with the game or with my browser and Newgrounds not working together. I turned off ad block and everything. Help?

Edit: Medal showed up extremely late. Must be a problem with Newgrounds rather than the game.

Rob1221 responds:

I don't know what causes medal unlocks to fail for some players.

Wow, I'm playing this while the music from "Chessformer" is coming from another tab. Is this what the kids call vibing?

Jokes aside, this is a fun little gadget with a cool concept. I've seen "shaky line" type animations in a lot of games with hand-drawn art styles, and this makes me think of those. It was fun to recreate that kind of effect with this! Just curious, how did you program it?

nokoi responds:

i made it in unity, it stores the lines initial position then gives it a random x and y value ranging from either x minus shake offset to x plus shake offset and the same for y every frame

This is quite a nice homage to the Windows 95 maze screensaver! However, there's a few things I'd like to mention, mostly related to the rat. It took me a bit to figure out how the rat works - maybe it'd be good to make it more clear exactly how it works and how you're supposed to avoid it. The rat also gets stuck in various positions because of its hitbox, and I've noticed that in some places it's possible to take advantage of that, but in other places it's also possible for the rat to get stuck somewhere you need to go and you can't get past it. I'm not sure how to feel about the graphics - it's cool that you made such an accurate homage, but it's also likely that a lot of people will underestimate the quality of this game because of the way the graphics look. Decently solid overall.

Ant responds:

Thank you for taking the time to write an honest review! I just went ahead and made an update. I have tried my best to fix the hitbox issue, and the rat's A.I. The rat may stop after moving because of the pathfinding A.I. The reason being that it has to recalculate its path towards the player each time it stops. The graphics on the other hand are not my main concern because I figured I'd make this for fun rather than it being a long process to make because I tend to lose motivation quickly, that and the fact I have been dealing with a lot of school work lately and need to finish that. I just made this whilst I took breaks from my work. If you have any other feedback my PMs are open! Thanks again!

Edit: Whilst the hitbox is better it still gets stuck :/

I encountered a glitch in which, when I'd run out of energy, the arm kept perpetually going back and forth across the screen without placing any ornaments, and I didn't get the ending cutscene. The tree is a little bit hard to navigate, but I get that there's really nothing you can do about it, since that's the layout that makes the most sense for a tree. Maybe you can extend the game and add more levels with different layouts that are easier/harder (like the cat's on the mantle above the fireplace and knocking down knick-knacks, or on a bookshelf and knocking down books?) That'd be a fun extension of this concept!

I absolutely love this game, it's adorable and very well done! Great job with everything!

drakeblue responds:

I'll see if I can reproduce that problem and update if I can fix it. I hope it didn't spoil it too much for you.
I made this as a little toy for the holiday period, but the kittens came out well enough that I suspect they may make a return in the future and I doubt they'll stop being naughty.
Thanks for the feedback :)

I'm excited to play, but... it's not loading in my browser?

ExoPlanetGames responds:

I'm sorry to hear, what browser are you running? Maybe try using chrome, or refreshing the page a couple of times! - Programming Team - Nic

I wish this were a little more interactive, and the interface for character choice is a bit small. However, despite these two things, I see that there was a lot of effort put into this, and I love all of that. Nice work!

Supernova-Games responds:

Thanks a ton! This is only a small interactive experience in the universe of Cupid Simulator. We're hoping to launch a bigger game in this setting in a few days. Hope you like it!

I agree totally with @FuturecopLGF's review. In addition to all the things they said: I love the graphics and the premise with the sentient sword. I do wish you would put more information about how to play (especially with the reset mechanic) into the game itself instead of in the notes. This was a fun experience that got my adrenaline pumping!

Yword responds:

Thank you very much for playing! And thanks a lot for your suggestion, I will try to update it in next version.

I love this a lot. I love that so many people have come together and created such a perfect little virtual experience. All the little details that show the amount of thought that was put into this just make it so special.

Just one bit, though - after two playthroughs in which I opened all of the presents, I still only have two medals considered unlocked (1st and 5th). I'm using Microsoft Edge. I'll try it in Chrome soon and see how it does.

Merry Tankmas to all!

Edit: That's strange, I guess there's still a glitch in that case, because if that's how the system works, then I got the December 1st medal when I shouldn't have.

EinMeister responds:

I'm glad you like it!
The achievements work as they are intended to do, you can get a specific achievement of a gift only in the day that it gets released in, this means that the December Xth's present achievement can only be obtained on December Xth.

I want more of this! This is a game that makes me want to go back through after I fail. I'm going to try again later. I love the art style. The sound effects are a bit odd, but I think they add to the charm. Fun music, by the way!

DrGeraud responds:

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the game! I'll try to do a deluxe version one day.

Hey there! I like how excited you are to work on your game! However, before you start back working on that multiplayer mode, I have a few simple suggestions to help make the game better in general and get people more excited about what you're doing with it.

First, I know it's easy to overlook this when you're testing your own game, but currently, there is no way to respawn after you've fallen through the world! You should think about whether you want the player to respawn automatically, or whether you want to have them press R to respawn.

Second, I think people would really like your game if you tweaked the graphics a little bit. Currently they look very basic, and I apologize if this sounds insulting, but they remind me of my days on scratch.mit.edu. If you can't download free assets made for game developers or remake them yourself, why not reach out to an artist on Newgrounds who might be able to help you?

And third, I would like you to take a bit of time to figure out what the objective of your game should be. I see in another review that the first level can't be completed, and I wonder if the problem is that you haven't come up with a thing the player must do to complete it. (If you have, I'm sorry for the assumption.) I know that as a developer, it's fun enough to just jump around and you easily think of it as a game in that aspect, but players, who don't have that love and connection to your game that you do, need to have something to make them want to interact with the world you've built. It doesn't even have to be going through multiple levels - you could instead have coins to collect that award the player points. This type of point-based format would translate very well to a multiplayer version!

I hope you found my advice useful and not insulting. Don't give up on this. It's got a lot of potential to become something really interesting. :)

KamiTami responds:

ty for your review , yeah im trying to setup the multiplayer version to work fine then i will start dev my game with things like equiping weapons and etc.
